THE ALTERNATIVE FATHERS DAY GIFT GUIDE (for moms)
This month we spoilt the moms in our lives. Be it our birth mothers, grandmothers even those individuals assuming the mother figure in our lives. I’ve no doubt we spoilt them the best way we could, right?
Now it’s the turn of the fathers in our lives. Whether it’s your birth dad, grandfathers or individuals who are the father figures in your child’s life, let’s make Sunday, 17th June 2018 extra special for them.
When I say extra special, I don’t mean let’s get them our usual go-to gifts for dads, OK! This year let’s put a little more thought into the gifts, shall we? Let’s stay away from the usual suspects of socks, soap-on-a-rope (do they even still sell these), ties, cologne or winter slippers. I know that’s what we used to give our dad (bless his soul) and we may or may not have snuck one or two of these gifts for hubby since we became parents. Although they will give you the biggest smile and thank you profusely for spoiling them, deep down they really wish you’d put a little more effort into the gift.
I know I will NOT appreciate it! #justsaying
I won’t even pretend to like it, judge me all you want…
Stuff the whole “…it’s not about the gift, it’s the thought that counts…” CRAP! If I can make the effort to think outside the box, so can you MOM … or DAD!
So to help you out, here are some alternative #GiftIdeas to spoil the dad in your life this Fathers Day.
“A FATHER IS NEITHER AN ANCHOR TO HOLD US BACK, NOR A SAIL TO TAK US THERE, BUT A GUIDING LIGHT WHOSE LOVE SHOWS US THE WAY.”
TWO HOUR SCENIC CHAUFFEURED HARLEY RIDE
So dad loves the thought of being on the back of motorbikes but mom won’t let him get one of his own, then a ride on a Harley is surely going to thrill him!
Saddle up an iron steed with a two-hour Harley Davidson around Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban. Aspiring riders can take a chauffeured morning or afternoon of tearing across the asphalt on the back of a Harley. You will be provided with a helmet and driver so all your dad will need to do is sit back and enjoy this awesome machine.
If dad is in Gauteng, the ride will go for a cruise along greater Johannesburg’s roads, admiring scenic views, especially on the northern and western routes. Depending on the pickup point, the ride can head out along winding roads towards Hartbeestpoort Dam or explore the city with the sound of dad’s iron steed’s engine reverberating off the cityscape.
If dad is in Durban, the route tour will be through the beautiful lush green coastal roads. Enjoying the sea breeze against your face while enjoying the views along Durban’s uShaka beachfront. Cape Town being your base, then he can enjoy the curves and bends of world-famous Chapman’s Peak drive as he cruises the cosmopolitan streets and boulevards of Cape Town.

TANDEM SKYDIVE
Is dad a bit of an adrenaline junkie?
Then he’s going to enjoy this one because nothing quite compares to the rush one get as you stand on the edge of the open door of an airplane at 10,000ft and look out at the world below. This great experience includes a DVD and photo package so dad can relive his experience again and again. At the airfield dad will be warmly greeted by the Tandem Master, then after signing in, he will watch a short instruction video and be given a thorough briefing before gearing up and making their way out to the waiting plane.
Once in the air dad will get the opportunity to relax and appreciate the stunning views from the plane before he being strapped tightly to the instructor behind him and make their way to the open door and making the jump out into the open skies. Then begins the amazing adrenalin rush as they freefall for almost 5 000ft before the main parachute is released and the gentle descend begins, while dad takes in the scenery around him before landing back on terra firma.
This is definitely an unforgettable experience that will stay with your adrenaline junkie dad forever.

As it’s my birthday on Father’s Day my kids have their work cut out. My husband is easy but I always like it when we make an effort for Father’s Day as he does a lot for them. So we buy him a descent gift. But this year it falls on my birthday and birthdays are big celebrations in our family. So I’ll wait and see what transpires #sabloggercafe
Birthdays definitely trump Fathers Day in my books, that said I hope you and the husband are spoilt by the family.
My husband arrives back from the UK on the 16th, also our youngest’s burthday. So will stay over in joburg that night and treat him to a nice Father’s Day breakfast before heading home. It’s hard to buy gifts at the moment as I keep stressing about how to take it with us. Lol
Great list though. I like the idea of an ‘experience’.
Been following your journey as you prepare for the move over. I’m sure your hubby will appreciate all the love and just being surrounded by his girls on Fathers Day this year. Besides his baby’s birthday takes precedent, right 🙂
Such well thought out ideas, great to hear them from a man. I love the Harley drive and leatherbag option, the mug idea is also a winner. The 702 Day of the Dads sounds awesome!
Glad I found this blog!
hahaha totes appreciate that encouragement. Lucky dad if he gets the Harley ride 🙂
