HAPPY HOLIDAYS 2019
Where is this year rushing to! I can’t believe that we’re hours away from Christmas 2019. That said, this is the first year that I’ve been ahead of schedule with our readiness for the festive season. Christmas shopping is done in time, thanks to the Black Friday online specials this year we managed to get bargains for Father Christmas, and they were delivered on time too (Seen a few tweets that some are still waiting for their orders placed early in December-yikes!).
This year has been a mixed bag, like with so many, it’s been a year full of ups and downs. We choose though not to focus on the negative as it does nothing to dwell on it, rather we focus on all the positives that took place this year and they, fortunately, outweighed the negative.
Thank you to YOU for all your continued support, it means the world to Darren, Jay and I. We would not have achieved all that we have this year without you.
Below we share some of our highlights from 2019:
This post on Gay Couple Adopting – 6 Years On is one of the most read blog posts of 2019 with over 6000 views. Love it! Followed by our opinion post on Gay…but in the CLOSET! Clearly, in 2020 we need more personal posts.
Our features have been welcomed over the years since we started featuring women in our lives that were going against the grain and doing it for themselves. This year we deviated and shared with you snippets of the lives of other same-sex couples across the country “going against the grain“. Thank you Buhle, Sixolile, Katrien, Yolandi, Mamokgethi, Sarel, Quinton, Darren, Mark, Lungile, Katlego, Christo and Alex for sharing intimate parts of your lives with us.
If there was a year we can call “Our Media Year” it was 2019! We were Interviewed by the gorgeous Jeanie D on the Afternoon Express(TV), followed by interview posts by the fabulous Samantha Herbst for Parent24(Print Media) and the dynamic Nicolas Bauer on 702 (Radio) your feedback during and post these were incredible and so appreciated. We even had one of our posts -“When your child gets body-shamed in the playground” – published on Parenty, the parenting section of the Citizen Newspaper in South Africa. We have been blessed with the exposure.
Who doesn’t love pasta! Philips South Africa let us play with their top of the range Automatic Pasta Maker as part of their “My Pasta Dream” campaign where we got to try out for the first time how easy it is to make homemade pasta. The best part was, of course, being able to give a similar Philips Automatic Pasta Maker to one lucky ready AND according to FOHR our run of this Philips South Africa campaign also garnered us the Top Influencer for Philips in March 2019!
The world of theatre permits us to see the world through our imagination, don’t you agree. We have been fortunate to be able to attend a number of openings to stage performances by talented South African actors. All this would not have been possible without the support of these beautiful humans Bridget, Sneziwe, Collett and Bronwen.
We also got to travel to Swaziland in the Mazda C3 and put it to the test both on the smooth tar and off-road, and see how family-friendly it was. Did you get to read Darren’s review?
I’m sure by now you know how much we love trying out recipes and seeing how user-friendly they are – those in magazines for example. This year we got to try out a number and if you’re having family and friends over or perhaps attending a bring and share over the festive season we have a delicious typical South African pasta dish, a number of sweets like the Nola Mayo Chocolate cake, the super easy Fudge and other deliciousness in this post here or under the Recipe tab on the blog.
Lastly, indulge us a little more, after all, it’s because of YOUR support that we managed to secure these incredible awards in 2019. The year started with us winning the SA Blog Awards LGBT Category, followed by us being awarded the Feedspot Top 20 LGBT Parenting Award midway through the year and just before the year was over we were Runners Up in the SA Parenting Best Blog Category. It all still feels very surreal for us, but we’re humbled by the love and support you show us and we are so appreciative. We have a few exciting innovations and features planned for 2020 so keep an eye on these announcements to be made soon.
More on Awards 🙂
