5 BENEFITS FOR YOUR CHILD, WHEN THEY PLAY WITH PLAYDOH
Isn’t Playdoh the old Plasticine? I remember growing up with Plasticine and it was loads of fun. It wasn’t until recently when I received Hasbro’s Playdoh for our son to play around with that I actually got to appreciate the role it plays in our kid’s life.
WHAT IS PLAYDOH?
It’s really modelling clay composed of flour, water, salt, boric acid and mineral oil. First ever manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio, the USA as a wallpaper cleaner in the 1930s! Bet you didn’t know that, or did you!? However, it wasn’t until the mid-1950s that it was marketed to schools.
THE BENEFITS
Fine Motor Skill development, as your child squashes, flattens, cuts the Playdoh they develop and strengthen their hand muscles.
Pre-Writing Skills developed, as they press together the Playdoh and squeeze it between their fingers the pincer grip improves and helps the child develop the fingers that will eventually hold the pen or pencil when they start learning how to write.
Eye Coordination improves as your child uses different objects, shapes and rolling pins to shape and create with the Playdoh they improve their hand-eye coordination.
De-Stresser when your child is feeling restless and can’t really tell you what’s bothering them, let them play around with some Playdoh. As they squeeze the Playdoh, rolling and shaping it, it has a soothing and calming effect on them.
Encourages Creativity as they mould the Playdoh into whatever their imagination leads them. Dinosaurs, Cars, Planes it doesn’t really matter what they create, as long as they are having fun while playing with the Playdoh.
