5 CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN GAY DAD
Have you seen that meme about how the bulk of this year has been a blur?
I feel like I’ve been stuck inside a washing machine for the longest time with no way out for now!
This is a time that would normally be spent with family or loved ones in many instances, alas it may not be the case for me or many of us. Certainly not us this year. It’s going to be the first birthday, which happens during the festive season that I don’t get to spend with my extended family or at least a part of them.
Anyway, the reality is that we’re officially in December. This means presents all around, but if you’re like my husband Darren, you will probably not have finished your Christmas shopping until literally very last minute. To help you out, here are some gift ideas for the gay dad, ok doesn’t really just have to be a gay dad!
Dad is a bit of a bookworm like hubby Darren here. This is the perfect time to add to his collection as he hopefully gets to relax by the beach or pool or on the hammock. Besides these books in under our Book Review tab, here are some others that would look good under the Christmas tree with dad’s name on it…
- A Promised Land by Barack Obama
- Dinner At Somizi’s (I am not a chef)
- Becoming by Michelle Obama
- All Rise by Dikgang Moseneke
A BOTTLE OR CASE OF CRAFT GIN OR BEER
There’s been no better time than now to get the creative juices going. We had the pineapple beer during the hard lockdown period, but as much as socks or soap-on-a-rope would be ok for dads, let’s steer away from that for our gay dads ok. Why not try out one of these local craft Gins …
- FRDM Gin
- Elvis Blue (yep same guy from Idols SA) – Rebel Gin
- Devil’s Peak Beer
- CBC Beer
If you’re going to insist on keeping to tradition and getting dad underwear, why not skip the traditional mainstream stores and get him something a little more stylish. He’s a gay dad after all! Here are a few online stores to consider…
This year has been tough and stressful for all of us, so why not book a couples massage session, yes without the kids, and relax if just for an hour.
Get rid of those knots you’re wound up so tight around the shoulders. Perhaps he would love a Mani and Pedi, I love a Pedi as it really helps me to relax, really unwind for a while.
There are a number of choices around, so pick up that phone, make that booking or purchase a voucher ahead of Christmas for you both to enjoy in the new year.
Indoor plants are the latest rage. Haven’t you jumped on as well 🙂 Dad doesn’t have to green fingers, if he loves spending time outdoors in the garden, or planting things around the yard, why not get him a new pot plant for the house. There are so many local garden shops with stunning ranges. Alternatively, if he already has some indoor plants, why not get him new pots for his plants.
Here are some hard to kill plants, yep sometimes we need help, and their benefits to you and your home …
- Peace Lily – helps purify the air and promotes restful sleep and easy to maintain
- Snake Plant – cleans the air better than most other indoor plants as it is able to absorb large amounts of CO2 and emits O
- Prayer Plant – besides cleaning the air it does well in any kind of light
- Fiddle Leaf Fig – also purifies the air and can grow quite large
There you have it! Some ideas on how you can spoil your gay dad this year … a little differently.
Stay Safe, however, you choose to spend it!
