WHAT’S A FAMILY HOLIDAY WITHOUT BOARD-GAMES

WHAT’S A FAMILY HOLIDAY WITHOUT BOARD-GAMES

Two Dads And A Kid recently attended the Ravensburger activation of a few of their board games out at the Toy Zone in Woodlands.

We arrived and our young man was super excited. So if you’re tired of playing the same old board games? Don’t despair, we’ve got you covered this Christmas. Whether you’re on a staycation or heading out to the coast there’s always time for some family fun around a table in the sun.

Two of the games we got were ideal for the age that our son is at, the others are perfect if your kids are 8+ years old. (#AD)

PENGUIN PILE-UP

AIM OF THE GAME

It’s a definite hit with our son. Aim of the game is to get all your penguins safely onto the wobbly iceberg without toppling off any of the other already settled penguins.

WHAT YOU GET IN THE BOX

  • Blue base – that’s the water
  • White Iceberg
  • 3 Piece Puzzle ring aka iceberg stabilizer (helps balance the iceberg, for beginners)
  • 20 White pieces for the front of the penguin
  • 20 Black pieces for the back of the penguin
  • 20 Black beaks
  • 1 Red Flag
  • Instructions

Penguin Pile-Up + Ravensburger

All packaged in a large box. As soon as we were ready to play J started setting up all the penguins. Once we had shown him what to do he did the remaining penguins on his own, then setup the iceberg first with the support of the 3 piece puzzle ring and we were ready to play.

HOW TO PLAY

Divide the 20 penguins equally between the players, so if you’re three, each player gets 6 penguins and you are left with two penguins in the box.

The youngest player starts – those are the rules I swear 🙂 – by placing one of their allocated penguins onto the shaky iceberg.  As we each took our turn of placing our penguins on the iceberg, more penguins made their way onto the wobbly iceberg. You’ll need careful fingers to bring these cute little penguins to safety. Be careful because any penguins you knock down, you’ll have to pick up and keep. Our first round with the stabilizer was too easy, penguins weren’t falling off too easily. We removed the stabilizer and the real fun began as we now had to be extra careful and strategic when placing the penguins on the iceberg!

WHO’S THE WINNER

The first player to put all of their penguins onto the iceberg is declared the winner.

Penguin Pile-Up + Ravensburger

OUR THOUGHTS

Penguin Pile Up is a great fun game for both young and old folk. It’s definitely more fun playing without the stabilizer and attempting to place the cute little penguins onto the wobbly iceberg. This game is suitable for 1-6 players. Suitable for ages 5 years and up. It’s a pretty fast game, so there’s no chance of boredom. Ideally played under adult supervision.

OTHER GAMES FROM RAVENSBURGER

MonsterSlap + Ravensburger

MONSTERSLAP

HOW TO PLAY

MonsterSlap is another Ravensburger game we’re getting to know and play these holidays. This one can get a tad competitive as we all try to be first to catch as many of the monsters the arrow on the roulette lands on using our jelly hand.

OUR THOUGHTS

MonsterSlap is crazy fun for the whole family.

Trying to be the first one to snatch the monster card the roulette stops on, is sure to get everyone giggling. This game is suitable for 2-4 players. Ideal for ages 5+ years. Another pretty fast game, so there’s no chance of boredom.

  • Buy it from Loot
  • Recommended Age 5+

If that isn’t enough to keep the family entertained over the festive season, give these other board games a try. Besides Basta! who’s ideal age of play is 6+  years, the Science Flying Objects and Scotland Yard are really for the older kids in the family 8+ years old.

Board games are really loads of fun, especially when you have a few family members who are super competitive! Over the holidays to while away time between beach swims or for some family time away from the TV and tablets, get one of these board games out for loads of fun and giggles!
