CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS FOR DADS
I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that this year has literally flown by. That said, every year I have every intention of starting to gift shop for Christmas through the year, but always find myself at the stores doing last minute shopping on the 24th December. I do like it though.
I saw this post and it resonated with me. Why? Alas, I find it. At least growing up I know my sisters and I put more effort with presents for our mother than we did for our dad. Chatting to many friends, it was very similar for them too. It was always either soap-on-a-rope or socks or underwear or a bottle of Old Spice Aftershave!
To help you stray away from the above, here are a few gift ideas to fill your dad’s stocking this year. All from the comfort of your home, of office, or while at your local coffee shop. Where possible I’ve looked for local suppliers selling proudly South African products.
Vannie Kaap came into my radar earlier this year via their super amazing Instagram feed and posts that are bound to put a smile on your dial!
They have extended their personality to an online store, where they stock a variety of items, but for me this t-shirt would make any dad smile.
Trident Caps is a recent addition to the online world. Snatch That Deal is hosted by married couple Devon and Keegan.
The caps are available in 4 variations, so there is bound to be one to suit the dad in your life …
Now if your dad enjoys the kitchen as much as he does braaiing, then head on over to Paulis Food where you can create your own gift box for dad.
Cost is dependent on what you select for the gift box.
Temperatures are rising so it’s important to keep our feet aired. No better way than with these simple but stylish Arthur Jack Olly Sandal from Tread and Miller.
Our household tends to go through gym bags like really quick! I found the Nike Vapor Power Men’s Training Duffel Bag (medium) at Sportsman Warehouse. It is built to carry all your training essentials and is just the right size to fit into your local gym locker while you workout. It has multiple zippered pockets to help keep you organized, while a shoe compartment separates your clean and dirty gear.
The Solo Weekender Backpack prepares you for anything, as this handy backpack converts into a duffel bag in seconds. It has a fully padded 15.6” laptop compartment; internal iPad/ tablet pocket; separate shoe compartment; large side zippered pockets and a handy padded carry handle and straps.
We recently bought a Nespresso coffee machine for the office and I’m loving it. It helps that I adore an espresso right after a meal. So if your dad loves his coffee too and could do with a coffee maker of his own, then this is a bargain! Currently on special and comes with a R400 coffee voucher. This model is Nespresso’s brand new design. The new Essenza Mini machine is compact and combines ease-of-use, minimalist beauty and unrivaled quality to create the perfect cup every time.
We live in a world where all we do is technology driven somehow. In most instances we’re carrying our laptops, phones and/or tablets with us everywhere. The Pioneer Backpack from Burgundy is perfect for the trendy dad. It’s a great traveling companion and ideal for any outdoor trips as well as everyday commuting.
I don’t believe one can ever have too many books. If dad enjoys reading here’s a great read from Exclusive Books. In his bestselling What?s Your Moonshot?, global speaker and trend specialist John Sanei explained how the world is changing exponentially. In his follow-up Magnetiize, he challenges business leaders, employees and individuals to become future-ready, asking a selection of thought provoking questions.
This original Wayfarer is size 50mm and in style is straight from the ’60s, but still on trend today. Simple, clean lines and sophisticated design make these a must-have for all sophisticates. In tortoise with green, polarized UV blocking lenses. Any trendy dad will adore these.
Of late I’m really enjoying GIN, as are many of our mates. If your dad doesn’t mind deviating from his regular a little during the hot days ahead, why not introduce him to Six Dogs Blue Gin. This gin derives its name from the Blue Pea flower (Clitoria Ternatea – keep those minds in check please ), an antioxidant and aphrodisiac in traditional medicine. The infusion of Blue Pea gives the Gin its striking blue colour. The alchemy of this unusual botanical is further revealed when the Gin is mixed with a good tonic, changing the colour to light pink. Six Dogs Blue is the most royal of Gins. A party Gin. A touch of magic.
If dad loves his Funko collectables characters or would be keen to start a collecting hobby, then this is really a gift that will keep on giving! The best part is, you would be able to buy Funko Pop! collectables next season again to fuel their ever growing collection. Funko figurines will also be much better received than those socks that you were planning to get everyone again.
