FOOD NETWORK STARS COOK UP AWARENESS FOR SAVE OUR EDUCATION INITIATIVE
Discovery RISE (Reducing Inequality and Supporting Empowerment) has partnered with Save The Children South Africa (STCSA) to bring attention to an initiative that supports the safe return to learning for hundreds of thousands of children across the country.
Over a billion children’s education came to a standstill in the early months of 2020, and most were out of school for 6 months or more – and many remain that way. The Save our Education campaign was created by STCSA to help save a generation’s education by providing the necessary support to ensure that the 200 million children who were in school before the pandemic are able to return to school.
Awareness is a key component in the success of this initiative and Discovery RISE, powered by Discovery Networks, have used their platform to highlight it together with 2 of their most popular chefs from the Food Network SA family, Chef Nti and Chef Katlego.
In an effort to inspire the children to look past their circumstances and encourage them to learn valuable cooking skills that they can take with them into the future, the children were given an exciting opportunity to spend the day with both chefs and the Food Network film crew for an exclusive cook-off that will air on Chef Nti’s new show. Not only did they cook up a storm, but they were also given a front-row seat to see themselves in action, at the exclusive screening of the brand new season of each of the chef’s shows.
“We are thrilled that we got to give these children a once in a lifetime experience that was not only fun, but also showed them that there is more to life than the fallout from the pandemic that they are currently experiencing”, says Lee Hobbs, Senior Vice President of Pay TV, Global Brands and discovery+ for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)
Be sure to catch the premiere of the chef’s brand new shows this weekend on the Food Network, channel 175.
“These children have been through so much, and the opportunity for us to give them a fun-filled day of positivity where they could simply enjoy being children will hopefully inspire them keep a positive outlook as South Africa does what it can to get them back into school, with everything they need to rise again.”
