REVIEW : CINDERELLA, JOBURG THEATRE PANTOMIME
Nothing beats going to the theatre!
It felt amazing to be able to go to Joburg Theatre after 18 months. In 2020, for obvious reasons, we were not able to go to the much anticipated annual festive season pantomime, but this year we were given the opportunity to attend and we couldn’t wait to take our seats.
The matinee opening of #CinderellaSA was abuzz with excitement both from the audience and the fabulous actors on stage. If you’re looking for a contemporary twist to an age-old fairytale, load shedding and all, then you have to get the family to Joburg Theatre for this panto!
Bru’Button’s played by Bonginkosi Mthombeni will have you in stitches whenever he’s on stage. He gave a stellar performance, and for me was the heart of the show. Bongi just being on stage will have you belly laughing. He understood the brief and delivered it. When GogoMama first appeared I wasn’t thrilled by her performance, but as the show progressed and she changed to the Merry-Fairy Godmother it was like she became someone else, like literally 🙂 she was amazing.
Is a pantomime at the Joburg theatre even complete without performances from Ben Voss and Desmond Dube, no! The answer is a solid NO! As the two stepsisters, they are incredible. The audience was abuzz with laughter at their satirical comedy and witty modern-day references,
The special effects introduced this year are stunning! Bravo to the choreographer Nicol Sheraton, Dale-Ray Scheepers as both music arranger and musical director and Bronwen Lovegrove for the incredible African-themed costumes.
With the reopening of the performing arts in Joburg, book your tickets already and go enjoy this incredible production.
